  1. note: Xr = the distance from Redding to meeting point. Vm = the speed of the motorcycle (70m/h) Vs = the speed of the SUV (75m/h) T = the time in which the motorcycle arrive at the meeting point 400 Miles - Xd = The distance from Bishop to meeting point. we need 2 equations with 2 unknowns (Xd and T) we write the motion equations for the tho vehicles Xd =Vm * T 400M - Xd=Vs*(T -40 minutes) so ((40 min=2/3 Hours)) Xd =Vm * T 400M - Xd=Vs*T - Vs*2/3 Hours so ((we replace the speeds) Xd=70m/h*T 400m -Xd=75m/h*T - 75m/h*2/3h so ((75m/h*2/3h = 50m)) Xd=70m/h*T 400m -Xd=75m/h*T - 50m so ((we multiply the second equation by -1 )) Xd=70m/h*T -400m + Xd = -75m/h*T + 50m so ((we multiplay the first equation by 75/70 )) 75/70 * Xd = 75m/h * T -400m + Xd = -75m/h*T + 50m so ((we add the 2 equations, term by term)) 75/70 *Xd -400m +Xd = 50m so 75/70*Xd + Xd = 50m + 400m so Xd* (75/70 + 1 ) = 450m so (( 1=70/70 )) Xd*(75/70 +70/70) =450m so Xd* 145/70= 450m so Xd= 450m *70/145 so Xd = 217,24 miles Hope that helps !!
