How to do payroll for a small business in Texas?

We have a small business in Texas and only a couple of employees. How do I do payroll manually for right now to save up some money? How do I know what I need to deduct and how much?

  1. If you use QuickBooks you can buy any of a number of different types of payroll Subscriptions. I Believe the other accounting software have payroll also. The cost is usually relatively inexpensive. You do have to withhold taxes or have te people as vendors 1099. CAUTION THERE ARE SPECIFIC RULES WITH THE IRS ON THIS. Base deductions are: Federal Withholding Employee Social Security Employer Social Security (matches the employee) Employee Medicare Employer Medicare (matches the employee) FUTA (federal unemployment) SUTA (State Unemployment) Workmens Comp. Any other benefits that you designate or are required in your location. You may also have to pay/withhold City taxes or other local taxes. Speak with an accountant in your area to determine. then call the state for their information. Any other Questions contact me offline: doncampbell@CandHConsulting.net Good Luck
  2. Have a look at PaycheckCity.com. Disclaimer -- I do not use them and have no first hand knowledge of their services. They offer free paycheck calculations including local taxes. Hope this helps Jerry-the-bookkeeper
