Electric Vehicles? Any good sites on electric vehicles? Why not use a petrol generator to supply continuous power to an electric vehicle? Yes, it will be a hybrid, but wont the fuel consumption be very low.
Is it possible to work with electric vehicles for a living? The title pretty much says it all. I have a passion for electric vehicles, both motorcycles and cars. I was wondering if it is possible to become an "electric car mechanic", or anything that works with electric vehicles? Thanks in advance.
Do electric vehicles emit harmful electromagnetic radiation that is of any concern? With the advent of hybrids and possibly electric vehicles, this is a possible side effect. I was discussing this with an electrical engineer yesterday, and he said he would not wish to be subjected to the EMR given off from super high voltage systems needed to power electric vehicles. Any electrical experts out there have some input?
Why do people have a problem with Hybrid or Pure Electric vehicles? I don't see why we can't see that sometime in the near future we as americans are going to have to find another source of fuel but it seems that to most Americans Gas is it and they don't see any other alternative. Look people these Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that the auto company's are showing you are a bunch of crap. Just as easy as you can make a Hydrogen Car you can develop an electric car because basically a hydrogen car is an electric car they just use hydrogen (FUEL) to make electricity instead of Batteries Somebody had asked a question about what to do with hybrid batteries when we replace them. I don't know what do we do with the million plus Cell phone batteries and Laptop batteries that are all over the world ohh yeah we recyle them. You see the same batteries that power your laptop and you cell phone can power your car ohh and power your home through your electric vehicle if you have a VEHICLE TO GRID charging setup . You People need to wake up!
How far away are electric vehicles? The Tesla roadster is going to be introduced later this year, and it has me wondering: how long before we have more production electric vehicles available? I live in California and I'm sick of paying so much for gas. When will we have an electric sedan, suv, or coupe? How far away is the future? How much longer do you think we'll have to wait before we can go to the car dealership and buy an electric vehicle that isn't a golf cart?
Do electric vehicles reduce total greenhouse gas emissions? This is actually a rhetorical question - the answer is that they do. However, I've seen a number of people in the Environment section say that electric vehicles simply move pollution and emissions around (to wherever the power plants are). While it's certainly true that the greener our power grid is, the greener electric cars are, even with the current US electric grid mix, electric vehicles will produce a significant decrease in total emissions. See this report for further details: http://www.pluginamerica.com/images/EmissionsSummary.pdf Considering this information, shouldn't we be pushing for electric vehicle research and development? ICE = gasoline car (internal combustion engine) HEV = hybrid gas-electric car (uses gasoline to recharge batteries) EV = electric vehicle (plugs in to recharge batteries) "EVs reduce CO2 by 11%-100% compared with ICEs and by 24%-54% compared with HEVs, and significantly reduce all other greenhouse gas emissions, using the U.S. grid mix. If all U.S. cars were EVs, we’d reduce global warming emissions. Using electricity strictly from coal, EVs still would reduce CO2 by 0%-59% compared with ICEs (one analysis found 0% change; six others found reductions of 17%-59%) and might produce 30%-49% more CO2 than HEVs (based on only two analyses). On the other hand, if electricity comes from solar or wind power, EVs eliminate all emissions. Using natural gas to make electricity, emissions fall in between those from coal and renewable power.
Are all the sponsor vehicles in the Vuelta a Espana electric, or are the cyclists breathing nasty exhaust fume? I just wonder how the cyclists in the Vuelta a Espana cope with ALL the sponsor/camera vehicles, and the smelly exhaust fumes they emit, or are these vehicles electric or battery operated? I would love to know, thank you! The vehicles are right on top of them a lot of the time and today I noticed that by the placement of one particular motorbike, one cyclist had to slow down and change his course, to accommodate the invasive motorbike. This lost him precious time and energy.
Why dont any country's start to move to electric vehicles? its more environmental than gasoline cars why dont they just start selling them making them the "thing" like that thing they ddi with the old cars that you traded them for a newer one (but with some of your own investment) Global Warming is becoming a serious problem and i dont see why any goerment isnt thinking about moving to any electric powered vehicles
Are electric vehicles really environmentally friendly? In order to charge the battery of an electric vehicle like the Volt, you must plug the car into the wall outlet. Doesn't the power plant pollute the environment? I read that the car battery manufacturing facilities heavily pollute.
What are the pros and cons of electric RC vehicles versus gas (or Glo) engine vehicles? I've been wanting to get an RC vehicle, and for many years as a youth I was always interested in and THOUGHT that gas powered ones were better. Now, however, I've been torn between the two decisions since I've been hearing and reading that electric is comparible nowadays to gas in every aspect. Anyone in the hobby of RC vehicles care to elaborate or point me to a website that can help in a decision as to what to go with? Thanks.
Why Electric vehicles are not encouraged by the Govt.? The cost of Petroleum products are ever increasing and also they are becoming scarcer. They are also polluting our atmosphere. On the other hand, the electric vehicles - scooters, cars etc appear to be more beneficial. But why they are not popular in India? Why not Government give tax breaks and incentives to encourage their use?
What's with the sudden backlash against electric vehicles? Okay to be fair it's only 2 questions, but there were many responses containing negative and incorrect information about EVs from people who should know better by now. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070901171558AAUul1E&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMiTxSV9Co6xRNVin3JTGJsprhDLJzTZg1iwAyvZqDvJlpEdKiOeLVrwhxY_UIX0qnCQ--&paid=answered#RsR4WTC1UGLXAOZlOfd26Pr22G__DAD6hVJeJW5TpX.ayPFJ4ZHX http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmY.kSXthgJqQKvUx.XR2_J0.Bd.?qid=20070902020813AAcHuR7 Granted ideally our power would come purely from renewable energy, which would make EVs emissions-free. However, even with a power grid based purely on coal, electric vehicles would reduce greenhouse gas emissions as compared to gas cars. With the US grid mix, they're a big improvement over hybrids, let alone gas cars http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am2pWOxnFjdvlJ7qKN05Uwzty6IX?qid=20070827141524AAc0HaA Does anyone have data to refute this, or shall we accept the benefits of EVs now?
Should GM just make a lot of Volt electric vehicles and offer them at a lower price? Instead of just teasing us or slowly releasing the vehicles or initially offering them at prices over $30,000, I think GM should go for it and start full production selling the cars at no more than $25,000. Would you be more likely to buy one if it was priced at $25,000 and then you get $7,500 government rebate, bringing the effective price to $17,500? I think they would be flying off the lots faster than they could make them. What do you think?
Can our crumbling infrastructure handle electric vehicles? Every summer in California we have rolling blackouts because we are using more electricity than we are creating. What will happen when people start plugging their vehicles in to the wall? Will we be able to keep up with the energy demand, or will these new green technologies create huge problems? Has anyone heard anything about this?
Neighborhod electric vehicles in small communities? What role could neighborhood electric vehicles play in a transportation system, what needs would they serve? Are there environmental, social, or economic benefits? How could new development, or urban redevelopment better accommodate these vehicles? And most importantly, should policy be structured to support this move?
Electric Vehicles and internal combustion engines? WHEN are we going to have electric vehicles freely available so development on vehicles and batteries can go on, and also when are internal combustion engines going to double or triple their efficiency? Aren't the "owners" of the global markets and economies afraid that one day there is no possible carbon dioxide imprisonment? Even now it is no warranty, it's only but a rising technology that may become an eventual solution!.. :S You're way out of internal combustion engines practical mechanics Russel. How can you say internal combustion is on the verge of efficiency when, for example, 2 stroke engines use half the steps to perform the combustion cycle? It's not just thermodynamics, all laws set limits. That includes phisics, criminal laws, economics, etc. The human genie tends to overcome them! :) Regarding batteries, it's also a matter of development. While there is no interest on it, there will be no investment!
How many electric cars (electric vehicles) have been sold in London, UK since the Congestion Tax? According to The Economist, there were over 14,000 units -- does that include electric bikes and electric scooters such as the EVT-168? How many were cars, by make/model, such as the Reva G-Wiz electric cars, Maranello4 (Maranello-4), the Mega City, etc? I read somewhere that Citroen sold less than 20 of one model electric car in a year, so Citroen dropped making (EV's) electric vehicles. What about Peugeot, in France, how many electric vehicles have they sold by model year? If you have sources for your answer, please provide the reference source(s). If you're a London resident, can you advise how many EV's you see on the streets, per week? Thanks in advance. Although electric cars' batteries can cost 2x-10x more than using gasoline, a secret process can revive batteries, such that the battery cost is zero. Check out or google for REVIVED BATTERY ELECTRIC PICKUP TRUCK or similar. Reply to the answerer: Batteries can be recycled, of course.
Is It Considered Tyranny That Congress Demands That The Big 3 Auto Makers Build Hybrids and Electric Vehicles? Hybrids and Electric are not in high demand. People still want their big SUV's and Congress is telling the Big 3, NO! Isn't it our decision here in this free country to choose what we want to drive? Is it not TYRANNY to DICTATE through Legislation what the American People need to drive? TYRANNY 1: oppressive power Thomas Jefferson> ; especially : oppressive power exerted by government OPPRESSIVE 1 : unreasonably burdensome or severe <oppressive legislation>
what are the pros and cons of electric vehicles? the detroit auto show unveiled many electric vehicles, such as the volt, during its annual show; however, what are some of the cons of having electric vehicles, and why are the manufacturers so hesitant and late to release them??? thnx
Electric Vehicles Why do you plug them In? I dont understand Why electric cars have such a short range before they have to be recharged. Why isnt there a massive alternator that is ran off the elctric motor that powers the car that intern recharges the battery?
what were the problems with the marketing of electric vehicles? supposedly using the "who killed the electric car" documentary as a reference... I watched that part over and over and failed to pinpoint it. The Beastmaster: Um...no? That's my question, that's what the professor wanted answered that I failed to answer so no, don't change my question and tell me I need to rewrite.
question about the benefits of electric vehicles? It seems to me that if you have an electric car that you plug in, it is (most likely) running off of coal, which powers most electricity grids. How is this better for the climate and for the environment in general?
Do block heater poles work for electric plug-in vehicles? In cold weather climates, electric poles are commonly found in parking lots so that people can plug in their block heaters. When electric plug-in vehicles become more popular, can you plug into the same outlets to charge your vehicle? So in essence, you could recharge your vehicle every day at work rather than using your own electricity at home. Feasible?
Since it is on the cards that fully powered electric vehicles will be? the majority of cars on the rd. in the ten years time. How can the chansellor allow zero rd. fund license fees, lose 62 pence in the pound for every gallon of petrol or deisel that will not be purchased, and conjestion charges in some city area's, if he is prepared to manage without that income then why do we have to be ripped off now. to huge perhaps you missed the Thusday mirror and the mail on Sunday
Hybrid and electric vehicles, The environmental effects of? I need to find some articles(sources),with research preferably, that show that hybrids and EV's are worse for the environment than a regular commuter car. I know alot of you are ging to want to give me some that are pro Hybrid and EV's but that is not what my paper is on, So tell me what you have. Thank you. I'm not trying to prove or disprove anything I simply want to show the other side. And all I need is some sources that take that stance.
Electric Conversion Vehicles Federal Tax Break? I would like to know if anyone knows if there is any federal or state legislatures that gives incentive through grants or any other form of assitance to people who are considering converting their vehicle to Electric from Gasoline/Diesel. I have a vehicle and there is a company out of Lehi UT that offers solutions for electric motors in vehicles. Anyone knows about this sort of assistance? Thanks J p.s. I am in Colorado. Colorado is very prominent when it comes to protecting the environment. However, in recent years they have eliminated emmission testing on all vehicles.
Why doesn't The United States Postal Services use electric or hybrid vehicles? The United States Postal Services delivers our mail everyday around the nation which means gallons of gas are being used everyday, and gas isn't cheaper or getting cheap. Why don't they switch to electric or hybrid vehicles and save the tax payers some money as well as ease up on our dependence upon foreign oil? Also business like UPS, FedEx, and DHL could do the exact same thing. can the batteries of electric vehicles be recycled and is this its major downfall? I know the major disadvantage to electric vehicles is that the battery does not last long, but is there a problem with what to do with the old ones that need to be replaced? What happens to it, cant they be recycled? Im doing a paper on why we should bring back the PEV. (pure electric vehicle) and i dont understand what the major problem is that dont make them an attractive choice today? Any help is really appreciated and sources are very grateful.
What's the best way to contact LEED builders about electric vehicles? Builders usually want more points for their LEED certification. Builders can get extra LEED points by designing structures that work with, or incude, an electric vehicle. However, with our electric pickup with its revived (reused) batteries, the project should get even more LEED points! But how do we reach the decision-makers? Gary Tang and I have created the world's first (and only) Electric Vehicle that runs from "dead batteries", and therefore have a no-cost battery pack. Did you know that the Burnaby New Leader wrote that this process would benefit people of many countries, especially where ordinary people can't afford the $80,000 it costs to purchase a typical electric car, like Tom Hank's eBox? Not to mention that electric cars reduce global warming and climate change. A LEED project should be able to excite people, by showing pickup truck that runs on nearly-free energy. Can anyone provide info and opinon on hybrid or electric family vehicles? Ideally looking for non-mini van, 7 seater production vehicles. We are looking to replace our Ford Freestyle Dana - thanks for the links. We've been checking out the Highlander and the Tahoe (both Hybrid models). GM seems to be turning the corner by offering more but they are SLOW. Headtate - I agree they are pricey. The we have 5 people in the family and a dog. ANy road trips to the grandparents involves hauling luggage and everyone. The hybrids seem to be the way to go.
