Hybrid Vehicles Knowledge Base
Hybrid Vehicles? what are a few examples of hybrid vehicles. Passenger Vehicles, Sports Cars, Trucks, Vans, and SUVs. Just the name of the vehicle (ex: Ford Taurus) and which type of vehicle it is (passenger, truck...) thanks! :)
Hybrid vehicles? Does anyone here drive a hybrid? I know there are a couple of SUV's out there that are hybrids and I was wondering if they suffer in performance and power since they are hybrids. Also... do they really get the mpg that is advertised? I'm thinking about a Mazda CX-9 or Buick Redezvous which are not offered as hyrbids.. but I figure I should look into the more environmental friendly vehicles as well if they are up to standards. Not sure I would want a plug in. As much as I travel I hate to stop and pay someone's electric bill so I can plug my car in... lol. Wouldn't a car that takes ethanol be a better choice over a plug-in car? I like the idea of using solar power for energy too... which I think the prius does? But I have heard the Prius does not get the claimed mpg and that is was a little weak. LOL, you two... I just went and read reviews about the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, they are having a plug in model in 2008.
hybrid vehicles? how much would u pay for a hybrid vehicle that got 100 mpg on the highway running on E85 ethanol and doesn't look like a prius?
Are Hybrid Vehicles really better for the environment? I keep reading articles that say hybrid vehicles are much better for the environment by using much less gasoline and producing far fewer emmisions. I understand that the vehicles themselves produce far fewer emmisions and get better mileage. What I want to know is how much more pollution are we generating in other ways as a result of using hybrid vehicles. Some hybrids are charged using a standard electrical outlet. The electricity comes from a power plant that can be burning coal, natural gas, trash, etc. Has anyone calculated how much each charge equals in pollution at the power plant? If you combine that pollution with the hybrid vehicle pollution, is it REALLY better for the environment? What about the batteries? All batteries contain heavy metals and / or acids, and all batteries eventually die and need replacing. How much energy are we wasting manufacturing new batteries and what is happening to the heavy metals & acids when the old batteries die? Any info would be appreciated.
How can hybrid vehicles contribute in reducing pollution? Hybrid vehicles are produced with the help of electrolysis, and if Ethanol is used in the process, then the electricity generation is still less & hence, these vehicles are taken as helpers in reducing pollution. I need a few examples of hybrid vehicles & how do u think they can further reduce pollution? Please use simple terms, and kindly answer my question.
What happens to the batteries from hybrid vehicles when they "die?"? I have heard that the batteries in hybrid vehicles last for about 100K miles. I am concerned with how, or what happens to the old batteries. Are they recycled, and how are they recycled. Is it good for the enviornment. Might I, and the enviorment, be better off purchasing a non-hybrid vehicle?
Is it true a 'Hybrid' vehicles battery production causes more pollution than conventional vehicles? There's a rumor I've heard that the battery for a typical hybrid vehicle starts in Canada, (mining and ore process); transported to Europe, then to Asia then to the vehicles point of sale: And all this production costs more damage to the environment than that of just a regular gas using vehicle. (The rumor continues to say more than a Humvee!). Any body with any REAL, (not argumentative) proof one way or the other? If this is true, lets start looking at other alternatives.
When will hybrid vehicles be avaiable in RP and will they be effective with our flooded roads? Toyota Prius have tested their model here in RP. It would be interesting to know the results. It would be helpful to know other brands, too. Have they tested the efficiency and effectivity with our bad roads? How about slightly or very flooded roads? How can electricity be stored? Will our 220 volts home sockets be effective or do they have adaptors? Will the cost be of these hybrid vehicles be affordable? How nice it would be to contribute to the clean and green environment and stem the tide of global warming! RP is Republic of the Philippines
What kind of MPG can be expected from hybrid vehicles? I am passively shopping for a hybrid SUV. I drive a ton, so net effective miles per gallon is an important factor in my decision making process. I am assuming, based on stickers, that MPG is close to the same for hybrid vs. standard vehicles because MPG refers to miles per gallon of gasoline. What I am most curious about is, what impact does the electric power have on net effective MPG? Flipping between gas and electric, how many miles could I expect to travel on a full (24 gallon?) tank of fuel and a full battery charge? Let's say I have a 24 gallon tank, full of fuel and I take it out on the highway. At 22 mpg, I can get about 528 miles. How many more miles could I expect to travel in a hybrid? If the new Chevy Tahoe Hybrid (due out in late 2007) gets 15 city and 22 hwy [pretty much (if not) the same as a regular Tahoe], what is the added benefit of the Tahoe Hybrid?
Why doesn't The United States Postal Services use electric or hybrid vehicles? The United States Postal Services delivers our mail everyday around the nation which means gallons of gas are being used everyday, and gas isn't cheaper or getting cheap. Why don't they switch to electric or hybrid vehicles and save the tax payers some money as well as ease up on our dependence upon foreign oil? Also business like UPS, FedEx, and DHL could do the exact same thing. I know upfront costs would be high which is why I didn't mean replace the entire fleet overnight, but to start off small and build upon that. But there seems to be no effort at all in the case of The United States Postal Services.
Is the military currently using hybrid vehicles etc? I am a college student writing a research paper about Hybrid vehicle transportation and I can't seem to determine if USA is using military hybrids. Thanks Well it would not be an easy thing to switch over to hybrid technology but you would think there would be some hybrids in use in active military zones. I know in 2007 in AZ there were some Humvee's being tested. Hummer is now sold/broken up but still. Anyone have facts for me?
Where currently are Hybrid Vehicles used? I was just wondering where Hybrid Vehicles are used around the world, so if you could name off some countrys or give me a couple links to check out that would be great!
What are the hidden environmental costs of hybrid vehicles? The Prius has been available worldwide since 2001. I'm told the battery has a life of 150K miles, so it won't be long before this "green" technology becomes so much toxic waste. Will the Prius and like vehicles cause more problems than they purport to solve? The batteries are HUGE Lithium Ion types. The existing recycling programs are designed for much smaller batteries. There is little/nothing available that I've found concerning the recycling infrastructure necessary to deal with the volume and volatility of this material. The batteries are HUGE Lithium Ion types. UPDATE: Once upon a time, people thought DDT and Thalidomide were good ideas. "New" does not always mean improved, even if the inventor's heart is in the right place. I've placed a call with my county's hazardous materials department, in an effort to learn what is the future of any hybrid vehicle batteries that are once they reach their lifespan, since nobody here knows, and I have come up blank using the web as a resource. If the net result of a dead battery is that the car is essentially totaled, the costs of saving fossil fuels over the life of the car would be evaluated against the environmental costs of replacing that car before one based on an internal combustion engine might need to be replaced. What actually happens to the battery and it's environmental impact(unknown) would be compared against the effects of continuing to burn fossil fuels (also unknown.) Being an environmentalist is not as simple as feeeling good about using less gas.
What is wrong with putting wind turbines on hybrid vehicles? See, here's the thing. Hybrid cars only really work in city traffic where you use the break a lot. On the highway, they run mostly on gas. So why don't they put wind turbines on it so the air rushing past at 70 mph helps charge the battery? Ignore the obvious aesthetics issues, I am sure they could make a sexy looking design.
Should there be import tax on Hybrid vehicles? I mean what kind of Idiots run our government these day? At one side they are speaking of doing everything in theie power to stop global warming and on the other hand they are imposing lewd taxes on vehicles that burn lesser fuel? This is just something that I can't understand. So what I am asking here is that should there be no taxes on Hybrid vehicles??
Are hybrid vehicles as good as they say? If I am a car manufacturer and I am looking to produce a new line of cars. I heard a lot of pros about the Toyota Prius and many people are amazed by its hybrid engine system. Is the hybrid system that good in reality? What are things that future hybrid car manufacturers can do to improve their current hybrid engines?
How do the tax breaks for hybrid vehicles work? I've read about it a little online but wanted some thoughts from people who have actually taken the tax break. The amount of the tax break is not actually the amount you get back, correct?
Do you actually believe that hybrid vehicles are the future? I really have a hard time believing their promises in mileage, and nobody recognizing their shortcomings. Oh, and why does honda make a V6 hybrid accord? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Isn't there an unreal amount of parts to break and maintainance?
Are hybrid vehicles really fuel efficient? I understand that because of the high gas prices, some Americans are considering purchasing a hybrid car believing it will help them economically. I'm one of those interested buyers, but will a hybrid car really help save the dollars in my wallet?
Are plug in hybrid vehicles planning to include a solar panel for their roof? If a solar panel could be carried in the trunk of a vehicle and was placed on the roof once we arrived at our sunny 20-40 mile destination and we stayed there for several hours or a complete work day, it seems it could be locked in place to avoid theft and make at least a partial charge for the drive home. If this is reasonable, what would be the minimum kw panel needed to avoid having to use any fuel?
How do the tax breaks for hybrid vehicles work? I've read about it a little online but wanted some thoughts from people who have actually taken the tax break. The amount of the tax break is not actually the amount you get back, correct? I'm considering the Mazda Tribute 2WD Hybrid, eligible for a $3000 tax break.
What do you think of California's new tax on hybrid vehicles? The California legislature has been wrestling with signing a budget for months now. They had to either cut must needed programs or raise taxes. Since the price of gas is draining the pocketbooks of many Californians it was decided that those least affected by a gas tax hike would be hybrid car owners. So effective January 1, 2008 all owners of hybrids will be taxed an additional quarter a gallon. Actually the way it will work is that when you buy gas at the pump the quarter per gallon will be included in the price. When you file your state income tax for 2008 in 2009 you will be given a credit for all the extra gas tax you paid in 2008 (with proper documentation) except for those who have a hybrid registered in their name. I would like your opinion on this bill SB98556. Thank you
