What is the best way to get out of retail management and into recruitment without loosing money? I'm currently a senior manager in retail and am looking to get out of retail asap.I'll really like to get into recruitment but so far i have posted my cv everywhere online and applied for a lot of job but havent got anything yet,It always seems everyone wants recruitment experience.

Apple Recruitment Event? Hey, i've been invited to this recruitment event for Apple Retail Lakeside. Never heard of um before i got the email about an hour ago, I'm going to go ofc because it is a great opportunity but i have a few questions i was wondering if anyone could answer? What is the best way to go about launching a training and recruitment business? I have recently launched a training and recruitment business business which I plan to run simultaneously, as in getting requirements from companies and training people as per company's requirement. due to less industry exposure I plan to start with junior level first and then move on to middle and sennior level. The problem right now in front of me is lack of a brand name in the market to assure companies of rpoviding skillful training as well as candidates that once the training is complete they have a good chance of being placed. Please guide me through the intial steps into launching this business. My prior experience has been in the field of direct promotion, primary research for a large retail company, end to end recruitment consulting at all levels and finally consulting services to small and medium retailers. Though previously the focus was only retail, now I would like to explore other sectors with similar skill requirement for the front end staff.

How can i get office experience if i dont have any? i have a good degree and perform well in interviews, but my only experience is in retail so i can never get my foot in the door for office jobs. i have spoken to recruitment agencies but they refuse to register me as i dont have the necessary experience. i have been told that i should do volunteer office work or shadow someone at an office but even that requires experience. i hope to get a graduate role for next year but for this year i need to work and get experience, whats the best way to get it? thanks

Severely p*ssed off with recruitment agency? I saw a retail manager job advertised that I would have loved to do, and have the right amount of experience and achievements to fulfil the role correctly. I'm not a dreamer, I really have solid experience in the sector. The job was advertised with an agency. I sent them my CV and when they rang all they wanted to do was talk about what 'I looked like' Did I wear fashionable clothes (yes) did I know the latest trends (yes) I had to explain what clothes I wore on a night out, etc.... The role is for a watch retailer!!! and the brand although it's nice it's not Hugo Boss or DKNY or Armani or anything in that league. She didn't seem interested in asking me about how I increased sales by 15% like for like in my previous job or how I cut shrinkage (theft) by 60% or how I recruited a brand new sales focused team from scratch in a city with less than 2% unemployment or how I managed to turn my store into the companies best performing one out of 80 stores within 12 months. All she cared about was... could I send a picture of myself (because 'i like to know what my candidates look like') and what clothes I wore. I never did send a picture. A) because I am not a freak, I am modern but I don't feel the need to send pictures of myself to people. B) I feel they should have been more interested in the achievements that I have made in my career. Not whether I wear a branded shirt on a night out with my mates. She phoned last week to say the position had been filled and that she would keep an eye out for any other opportunites. I still kept seeing adverts for the job in the newspaper and on other recruitment websites. I decided to email the retailer direct and guess what - they are interviewing today.....and said that I am too late for the interviews but should anyone not fit the bill then they will give me a call. Why do recruitment companies lie? They are messing with peoples lives. Had I known I was going to get messed around I would have applied for the job direct.

Tips on how to fit in at my new job? I have worked in retail for 13 years and after being made redundant I have decided I want a change, and would love to do something along the lines of pa, admin, office work. Hello I am interested in a retail supervisor position, and in the job posting it says that successful candidate will have high school diploma plus 1 or 2 years of supervisory experience. I don't have 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience, but I have bachelor's degree in business, 3 years of retail experience as a sales clerk, and some minor supervisory experience that lasted for 6 months. While I was in the university I took courses on recruitment and sales staff training as well as management. Can I apply for a Job at a Apple retail store, even though I am originally a Windows PC user? I have been using windows for many years now, I recently graduated from university with a Bsc (Hons) degree in IT. but I am faced with a problem I have the qualifications but not the experience needed to do the jobs in my field. with the global economy being as it is employers are reluctant to employee unexperienced individuals. But I recently started branching out and buying apple products and i really like them, I feel the user interface is exceptionally brilliant and its easy to learn and use. Yes they are ridiculously expensive to that of windows which do the same job if not better for a smaller price its just now I have one i don't wanna look back. this is a statement taken from apples recruitment page... My Aunt&Uncle have come over from Sri-Lanka&R looking for work.They have no experience or qualifications HELP? They are both in their late 50s and are not computer literate. I have tried retail shops, recruitment agencies even charity shops but everyone says "NO". I know England is going thru a recession but even cleaning jobs ask for experience! HELP!!!! xx Thanks to everyone who put qualitative answers. They are here legally, my family are mixed Sri-Lankan and English so my aunt has an ancestry visa. They get up at the crack of dawn daily & walk around the local area to find work. They are not interested in claiming benefits although everytime they ask the local jobcentre for help with job-searches, thats all they are offered. They have come to England to work hard & save up so they can retire comfortably. In the same way many Brits retire to other countries such as Spain etc. We have tried local shops and cleaning jobs etc but as yet, no success. Members of the local community haven't yet proved helpful unfortunately. My aunt worked in England in the 1980s & found a job with ease so as soon as her visa was approved, she came here hoping to do the same. The ideas that you have come up with are good and I think we will have to invest in making flyers and handing them out to people offering to clean their homes / offices etc.
Securing Sales Management / Consultancy Roles.? What does a guy (35) with 18+ years sales and customer facing work experience; direct field sales experience; field and retail management experience; recruitment and training experience (all across various industries) have to do to secure a new job? I've tried everything any nothing seems to work. Agencies are all but useless; the jobcentre couldn't fill a vacancy if it slapped them in the face with a big sign saying "I'm a vacancy - fill me"; the online notice boards seem to only produce useless duplicate info. I'm based in north Scotland, am quite happy to work locally or work away in a Scotland wide territory; i'd even go off-shore or overseas for the right package. I have no preference as to industry. I hold a full clean driving licence. My skills base is transferable to many different areas (sales, training, supervision, project / man management, consultancy, etc) and am willing to take on any training required. If you have or know of anything, get in touch. . RAE: No, i understand your comment entirely; thats quite alright. To be honest i'm not sure what the problem is, as you say with my experience i should have been snapped up. I'm not a sour, bitter or agressive person; quite the opposit. I'm actually quite a nice bloke (i would say that) but i'm happy, bubbly and always get on with the staff and customers. I'm in touch with many of the staff i've trainind over the years; so i cant be that bad. I have had a number of positions in a short space of time; as i'm trying to find 'the right fit'. But i consider this to be a positive thing, as it has given me such broad experience and training. I'm a "Can Do" kind of guy; a problem solver. I'm the kind of guy that likes to be set a task and told to come back with either the solution or the issue solved within a set time. I just need to find a contract or a perm post asap; as the piggy bank isnt sounding healthy. J.

Value added certifications for job seeker? Like many I am currently looking for a new job/career. I graduated over a year ago and have a liberal arts degree. I have leadership experience in retail dealing with numerous facets including sales, loss prevention, human resources, hiring and recruitment. I have been awarded several times for the dedication and results of my work. Unfortunately I am not getting any responses back-even for the jobs that I qualify for. I have also expanded my job replies to things outside of retail, including entry level education, healthcare, and other sales. I have resumes tailored to the jobs I am applying for and had them reviewed by others for critique. I have tried just about all the job boards, career fairs, networking sites (like linkedin) but still nothing. I wanted to know if anyone was aware of any certifications that would be of value to obtain to either help increase my chances or lead me in the direction of a career path. I have a lot of time on my hands right now. I am not looking for another degree program. Perhaps something where training is provided in a seminar and leads to some kind of certification. I feel like I have more experience than many others my age coming out of college. I have a pretty diverse degree background and real world experience in a business setting.

I need some suggestions please? Ok, I have spent the last 15+ years in an office environment. Sedentary roles where I don't get out of my chair often enough and it's starting to make me feel sluggish. Can I Please Have a Job? Just moved to Brooklyn NY... ready to work. I have worked fast food, retail, and factory/warehouse work before in Ohio. But haven't worked for a year because I went back to college to finish my Graphic Design programs. I'm very frustrated right now, because I've been looking everyday all day for a month and just kind find a job, I realize that the economy is really bad, but most all people I've encountered in the service industry around here either are incredibly rude, or don't speak a word of English... yet they have the jobs. I consider myself to be a creative person, but I can also be a good general labor worker/ washing dishes/ cleaning / anything. I just need income, and I am willing to work hard for it. i think i have depression what can i do? I think I'm depressed and I'm not sure how to handle it this time. I had it a few years back and was really quite ill. I went on tablets but they made me fat so I stopped them. In the last year I've had 5 jobs varying wildly in career from childcare to retail manager, office work to home carer and have left them all with days of starting. I don't even realise I've left half the time. I just make a wild decision out of nowhere then find myself back at home staring into space. My family and partner are finding it hard to work out and so am I ! I don't seem capable of working anywhere. I used to have a good job in recruitment until depression got me 3 years ago and i've never stuck at anything for long since. I can't even cry. I just sit looking at nothing then stuff my face with biscuits which isn't helping by the way. I can't see a dr. they only give out more tablets that make me fat plus i get awful dreams and blurry vision. anyone else got depression??
